Nordland General Store - A Community Cooperative

Squarespace, e-commerce & marketing strategy

Role: Site Designer + Builder, Marketing Strategist

The Nordland General Store is a project very near and dear to my heart. In November of 2020, Marrowstone Island’s heart and soul of the community, the Nordland General Store, burned in a fire sending its nearly 100 year legacy up in flames.

I worked with the owners to identify a vision for the new Store and ultimately passed the project to an investor I found through Jefferson County’s Local Investing Opportunities Network (LION). This investor and Marrowstone Island community member raised funds and set up the structure of the new store to function as a community cooperative, the perfect solution to rebuilding our community’s central hub with the funds, support, and love from the community itself.

I worked closely with the Board of Directors to help build and launch the Store’s first website for the membership campaign, setting up the e-commerce functionality to sell memberships for the cooperative model and tell the story of the Store’s reopening to our community. I also implemented the new branding and logo designed by island artist Kathryn Roberts of Plum Nelli across the new website and branded apparel and merchandise for sale in the Store.
